Dedicated to Melody Zotzman
1965 - 2002
It is no coincidence that music is mentioned 839 times in the Bible12 times as often as the word 'Hell'. Music has been a part of our world since creationJob 38:4-7. The ministry of singing in worship is a major ministry and the house of the Lord must be filled with singing. I Chronicles 6:9-32. Scripture declares that music has a healing power and it can also prepare us for battle. Thank God his weapon of music is being used full force in the worship at Emmanuel.
Someone prepared Ten Commandments for Singers and I pass them along to encourage you in your part of the music ministry.
- Thou shalt sing!
- Thou shalt sing with all thy heart, with all thy soul and with all thy might.
- Thou shalt sing fearlessly, ignoring the possible wondering of your neighbours.
- Thou shalt sing joyfully
- Thou shalt sing reverently as unto God.
- Thou shalt not be afraid to sing, for though an individual may pray in prose or even in wordless silence, a congregation must sing.
- Thou shalt not resist new songs, for it is written in the Book of Psalms, 'sing unto the Lord a new song.'
- Thou shalt not mumble the melody, but shalt sing it out loud, even if with occasional mistakes.
- Thou shalt not hesitate to sing together with the voices of the congregation. They want you to join them.
- Thou shalt not forget the words of the Psalmist, 'I will sing unto the Lord as long as I shall live.'
